Ice Breakers Ink WSHL's Leading Scorer

by Jared Tennant

The Mentor Ice Breakers have signed forward Jamahl Eakett to a PTO contract, adding another highly skilled forward to a group that the club has improved significantly this offseason.

Eakett, 21, is the second-leading goal-scorer in the history of the WSHL with 147 goals to his name. He had a chance to take over as the league’s all-time leader in goals before the 2019-20 campaign was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Jamahl is a player who can clearly put the puck in the net,” said Ice Breakers Head Coach Sebastian Ragno. “He is a player we have been after for a majority of the offseason, and to get him signed is a big step forward for our team. I look forward to seeing his success transfer to the FPHL here in Mentor.”

With 308 points (147-161-308) over four seasons of play, Eakett is one of only six players to hit the 300-point mark since the WSHL was founded in 1993. His full offensive ability was on display this past season with the Hinton Timberwolves as he paced the league with 60 goals and 63 assists for 123 points in only 40 games, finishing nearly 20 points ahead of the next closest player.

Eakett, a Provo, Utah native, joins nine other forwards who have signed contracts with the Ice Breakers since the season concluded in March.
