Ice Breakers Make First Offseason Move, Sign Sandstrom

The Mentor Ice Breakers, proud members of the Federal Prospects Hockey League, have signed defenseman William Sandstrom to a standard player contract. The transaction marks the first player addition the club has made since the conclusion of the shortened 2019-20 season.

"William is a big, skilled defenseman who is going to make an immediate impact on our blue line and really bolster the strong defensive core we have returning," said Ice Breakers Head Coach Sebastian Ragno.

Sandstrom, 19, hails from Ostersunds, Sweden, where he progressed through the youth and junior ranks before making his professional debut with his hometown Ostersunds IK this past season in Division 1. He also appeared in three games with Brunflo IK in Division 2, logging an assist and a pair of penalty minutes.

The Ice Breakers finished their second season in a playoff position with a record of 15-30-0-3, good for 48 points and fourth place in the Eastern Division. The club will look to make its postseason debut next year under Ragno, who was named the full-time head coach last week.
