Roster Update: Three More to Sign PTO Contracts

The Mentor Ice Breakers have announced that three players will be signed to PTO contracts this weekend. Defenseman Brett Mackell and forwards Nikolas Verbosky and Brett Gummo will all join the club on a tryout basis. In a corresponding move, forward Paul Hannah has been released on waivers. Additionally, recently acquired forward Toni Lampo will arrive in Mentor later than expected due to travel issues.

Mackell recently put the finishing touches on a stellar career at Villanova University (ACHA) that saw him post 100 points (30-70-100) over 92 appearances, including a career-high 40 points last year. Mackell, 26, hails from Philadelphia and owns a 6-foot-1, 201-pound frame. The blueliner played a pair of seasons at Elmira College (NCAA DIII) following a two-year stint with the South Shore Kings from 2012-2014. He will join the Ice Breakers on Sunday.

Adding to the Ice Breakers' core of in-state players is Verbosky, who is a 23-year-old native of Northwest Ohio and spent three years with the Toledo Cherokee (NA3HL) before playing a pair of seasons at the University of Toledo. This past season, Verbosky was the Rockets' second-leading scorer with a 22-29-51 line in 30 games.

Rounding out the new acquisitions is Gummo, a Lewisberry, Pennsylvania product who played the last three seasons with Indiana University of PA (ACHA). Gummo is 24 years of age and stands at 5-foot-10 while weighing in at 170 pounds. He was effective in limited action this past season with 14 points (3-11-14) over eight contests.

The Ice Breakers are headed east tomorrow for a two-game set against the Elmira Enforcers on Thursday and Friday before battling the Delaware Thunder at home on Sunday in a matinee matchup. Tickets for Sunday's contest are available here or by calling (440) 290-8502.
