Talipov, Lampo Added in Trade With Thunderbirds

The Mentor Ice Breakers have completed a trade with the Carolina Thunderbirds, acquiring D Ramil Talipov and F Toni Lampo in exchange for F/D Jiri Pestuka. Talipov and Lampo are not expected to be available for this weekend's games against the Port Huron Prowlers and Danville Dashers, but both players will join the team next week.

Talipov will be the youngest member of Mentor's roster at just 20 years of age, but the Russian blueliner brings a wealth of skill. Talipov came to North America in 2017 to join the Bradford Rattlers (GMHL) and racked up 69 points (18-51-69) over 58 outings and two seasons with the Rattlers and Windsor Aces, earning himself a GMHL All-Star selection in 2018. Last season, he signed with the Edson Aeros in the WSHL and finished out the year with the club before joining the Ogden Mustangs in the same league. The 6-foot-2, 203-pounder scored 43 points (3-40-43) over 41 games as a Mustang.

After joining Carolina on a PTO contract on February 14, Talipov notched a goal and two assists over four appearances. His first professional goal came in his game, an 8-1 win over Danville.

Meanwhile, Lampo is a 23-year-old native of Somero, Finland. With a 6-foot-3, 223-pound frame, the power forward provides a valuable blend of size and skill. After working his way up through the Finnish junior ranks, Lampo began playing professionally within his home country in 2017. He spent 2018-19 with Aspoloven HC and Boro.Vetlanda in Sweden before opening this season with the Birmingham Bulls (SPHL).

Lampo, who re-joined Boro/Vetlanda following a nine-game stint with the Battle Creek Rumble Bees in November, has three goals and two assists in his brief FPHL career. He comes to Mentor following the conclusion of his season in Sweden.

The Ice Breakers finish out their four-game homestand this weekend with a series against the Port Huron Prowlers on Feb. 28-29 at Mentor Ice Arena. Friday's contest is Game Show Night, with fans having the opportunity to win prizes in unique promotions during intermissions and media timeouts. On Saturday, the Ice Breakers will host their first-ever Pucks 'N Paws Night. Tickets to both games are available online or by calling (440) 290-8502.
